Lingify

Community guidelines

Lingify works because people are kind to each other's mistakes. Here's how to keep it that way.

Last updated 28 October 2026

1. The spirit of Lingify

Lingify is a place to practise languages with people who speak them. Everyone here is learning, which means everyone makes mistakes. Be the partner you'd want: patient, curious and kind.

  • Share your own language as generously as you practise theirs.
  • Correct gently, and only when your partner wants corrections.
  • It's fine to be busy. If you don't want to continue a chat, a short goodbye is kinder than silence.

2. Be respectful

Treat people's accents, mistakes, cultures and opinions with respect. Disagreements are fine. Insults, mockery and pressure are not. Don't push topics your partner isn't comfortable with, such as politics or religion, if they ask you to stop.

3. It's not a dating app

Friendships happen here, and that's lovely. But Lingify is for language exchange, not for finding a date. Don't send romantic or flirty messages to someone who hasn't shown interest, don't keep asking for photos, phone numbers or meetings, and take "no" or no reply as an answer.

4. No sexual content

No nudity, sexual photos, sexual messages or sexual voice messages, including in profiles. No sexual role-plays with the AI.

5. No hate or harassment

No content that attacks people based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, caste, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability or serious illness. No threats, bullying, stalking, doxxing, or encouraging anyone to harm themselves or others.

6. Protect minors

Lingify is only for adults (17 and over). Never share content that sexualises minors. If you think a member is underage, report them. We remove underage accounts, and we report child sexual exploitation to the relevant authorities.

7. No spam, scams or selling

No advertising, paid lessons, promotion of other apps or services, chain messages, or mass messages. Never ask anyone for money, gifts, crypto, bank details or codes, and never pretend to be someone in trouble. If someone asks you for money, report them.

8. Be real

  • Use your real first name and clear photos of yourself. No celebrities, cartoons or other people.
  • Be honest about your age, your native language and your levels.
  • One person, one account. No bots or automated messages.
  • Don't share someone else's photos, messages or personal information without their permission.

9. Using AI fairly

The AI helper is there to help you learn. Using it to translate or polish a message is fine. Using it to produce content that breaks these guidelines is not. Remember that AI can be wrong, so check with your partner when something seems off.

10. Stay safe

  • Keep conversations on Lingify until you trust someone. Report anyone who pushes you to move to another app quickly.
  • Don't share your home address, workplace, financial information or passwords.
  • If you decide to meet someone in person, meet in a public place, tell a friend where you'll be, and get there on your own.
  • Trust your instincts. You never owe anyone a reply.
  • If you're in danger, contact your local emergency services first.

11. Report and block

You can report a member from their profile (the menu at the top, then Report), from the chat menu, or by long-pressing a specific message and choosing Report message. Choose a reason and add details if you like. The person is not told who reported them.

Blocking someone stops them from messaging you or seeing you in Discover. You can block from their profile.

We review reports and act on them as quickly as we can. You can also email support@lingify.app.

12. What happens if rules are broken

Depending on how serious it is, we may remove content, warn you, limit features, or suspend or permanently ban your account, and in serious cases contact the authorities. Some behaviour, like targeting minors, threats or scams, leads to an immediate ban. Banned members may not create new accounts.

If you think we got it wrong, email support@lingify.app and we'll take another look.
